The full story behind those weird oast house buildings dotted all over Kent and Sussex

If you happen to drive through Sussex and Kent’s stunning countryside you may have noticed some rather odd looking buildings which are rather unique to our corner of the country.

One of the most familiar sights to travellers through our area is the distinctive conical or pyramid-shaped oast houses dotted among our rural towns and villages.

You’d be forgiven for wondering just what the funny looking conical roofs peeking from the old stone buildings actually were for.
